As you may not know. Ableton Live is my new preffered DAW. It's not you're standard DAW, and is more commonly associated with producing electronic music. But since I'm producing stuff by myself, it is a better tool. The clip-oriented session view is so good for songwriting, and trying out different parts. You just can't play and produce this fast with any other DAW and midi editor. I'm telling you Ableton is sick.

Here are some tips from a site I found: http://www.heatercore.net/livetipslist.html

And again, yes, I will have some new and improved music up very soon.

I can't stop changing my Wordpress Theme. There's literally thousands of free ones out there, and I'm never quite satisfied with whatever I'm using. Always a tweak here or there in the template code to do.

Sure I could design my own. I have dabbled in web design for years, but found it frustrating when designs wouldn't render the same in different browsers. Also I'm not versed in PHP, which is what this stuff is coded in. But with all of the tutorials out there I'm sure I could hack something together. But it's not worth designing something that very few people see anyway. Besides, we need to make use of those free themes that people designed and are letting us use. Give them credit and thanks.

I finally have some new stuff in my Ipod. I'm not going to review anything, there's plenty of that in the internet blogosphere.

One of the new albums I'm listening to is Stuck On Nothing by the Philly band Free Energy. This review says it all IMO. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14040-stuck-on-nothing/

I don't necessarily agree with everything in the review, but it's interesting. They say it's not an indie band, but actually "classic rock". Very true, but it's an indie band with a very classic rock influence. When I first listened I thought the riffs were so cliche, I was like is this for real? But the dry production and the rocking out with no apologies is really hooking me in to the point that I can't stop listening. Funny comment in the Pitchfork review "they're playing Rock Band without the console and TV....".

Also added the latest Titus Andronicus and MGMT. Also Beach House.

No comments on the jam, nice to make noise. But some need to practice with a metronome more often, if you know what I mean! No, I don't mean me.

So, where are all of the metronome-tight, killer drummers? In bands I suppose.

Well it's been awhile for me. Unless you count the time trying to get my son to rock on the skins. And that sounded good I might add.

But I'm jamming tonight at the Madison Music Foundry with a drummer and bassist that I've never met. I'm certainly not concerned, as just the mere act of pluggin in and making noise with others is fun. If it turns our fruitful, that is only an added bonus.

I would like to thank all of the bassists that came out of the woodwork and offered to show up tonight. I have your email for future. But Chris commited and even had a little bio about himself. I might add that is very helpful when trying to get together with peeps. I mean for me, I have whole freakin' website. Might seem a bit much? No, everyone's doing it these days.

But if you answer an ad and want to jam with someone, you may want to write a few sentences about your exerience and background. Just helps the recipient understand a little, at the very least what planet your on.

And so I will update later after the jam. As the quest to jam and form a powerhouse band goes on.

Anyway, while it is hacked, I actually like it more than like 99% of the haircuts I"ve ever payed any amount of money for. Seriously. I encourage others to try it, it's not that bad.

I watched a lot of Youtube videos of people doing it, but didn't really learn a thing. Just had a lot of laughs. They are pretty crazy, but I did it and it's fun. Think of all the money you can save.

When I have more energy I'll do a tutorial, yeah right.

Well, I still like Halloween Party. Also Blackdeer. And Wolfdog is not really taken by that many artists.

Pretty cool you gotta admit. Wait, you say, David won't that offend some peoples?

So I was out of town for work, Albuquerque, NM. I was busy and didn't really see anything there. The mountains where pretty, and it was nice and sunny for a Wisconsin person. On my last night I did venture downtown, not sure if that was a good move or not, but I managed to not get mugged. Hey, I don't want to turn this into a bash ABQ post. The food was good down there, no shortage of chili sauce, red or green. Or, you can do both and call it Christmas. I ate at several New Mexican restuarants, different than Mexican restaurants. I think it's spicier, I'm not really sure.

Anyway, this post is about a music group I saw at the The Launchpad. Turns out is was an all-ages night, because of the headlining group, a Green Day wannabe not worth mentioning.

Well the all-ages thing made me feel like merve-the-perve since I was the only one up in the over-21 balcony having a beer and looking down on the kiddies. But I paid the cover and wanted to see some live music.
The first two bands were local bands and the members were very young. I don't remember the names of the bands. I missed the first band entirely. I saw the second band, but found the tone of the lead guitarist very annoying. He needed to get the boot IMHO.

So the next band (opening for the Green Day Wannabe's, hey is that my new band name?). Was a punk outfit named Cobra Skulls. They were pretty kick-ass IMO. Guitarist had a killer tone with a Tele through an Orange head. They are a three-piece with the bass player and guitarist sharing vocal duties. They brought some different influences to the table, and had a kind of rockabilly type thing going at times, but definitely punk. I could tell the audience wasn't quite into them, but could definitely appreciate their kick-ass-ness. The audience where kids that were more into that Green Day, punk-pop, emo-thing, or whatever it was. The stuff you've heard a million times before, and it all sounds the same.

But the Cobraskulls exposed them to something different, hopefully made some new fans. They did with me.

I would also mention that the skulls are all also very cool guys, as I talked to all of them later after the shows.
